Wawa to Automate Recruiting, Hiring Process

Retailer selects Deploy Solutions suite

WAWA, Pa. -- Wawa Inc. is implementing Deploy Solutions Inc.'s Enterprise Talent Suite to automate its recruiting and retention efforts.

The Deploy system will facilitate our hiring process by driving better-qualified customer service-level candidates through to our general managers, said Ed Iames, Wawa's director of people development.

Simplifying our store managers' daily lives is of tremendous value because our managers have many responsibilities. Spending less time looking for applicants and more time interviewing better prospective [image-nocss] associates should ensure that our future associates are a good fit with our values and culture.

With a workforce of more than 16,000 employees across 560 store locations, Wawa needs to maintain a strong recruiting pipeline to replace the natural turnover the company and its managers face. One way the Deploy product suite will help Wawa alleviate this issue is by eliminating the large volume of paper applications.

Applicants will be able to apply through Wawa's career website or over the phone using Deploy's interactive voice response (IVR) system. Eliminating the manual input of an applicant's information will help reduce the risk of transcription errors and the handling of incomplete applications.

The system will also expedite the availability of applicant background checks for general managers. The Deploy Enterprise Talent Suite will help cut Wawa's onboarding and training expenses by identifying associates who are more apt to stay on the job longer, allowing them to become proficient at the job. An associate who stays longer contributes to the family atmosphere Wawa has developed over the years with their loyal customers. This family atmosphere is facilitated in part from Wawa's commitment to giving associates the opportunity for leadership and advancement through a strong preference to promote from within.

We pride ourselves on the family-like bond and trust our associates have earned from their customers over the years, said Iames. We need to equip our managers with tools that will help them adjust to a constantly changing workforce. We are excited to be partnered with a proven industry technology leader to help us achieve our goals.

The Wawa, Pa.-based retailer operates 540 stores in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

Newton, Mass.-based Deploy Solutions has provided talent management solutions to customers including Wal-Mart, Sheetz, Securitas Security Services USA, Hess, Flying J, The Pantry, Wakefern (ShopRite Stores), Tire Kingdom, FedEx, American Electric Power and more.
