GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Gilbarco Veeder-Root, a provider of technology for retail-petroleum operators, will choose one retailer for an "Extreme Security Makeover" this summer to demonstrate a successful process and modular approach to meeting payment card industry (PCI) compliance and protecting fuel. And CSP magazine will follow the story from beginning to end to report the effects of the makeover on the retailer.
Retailers face a multitude of security challenges at convenience-store locations today. From PCI requirements regarding point-of-sale and pumps to needing to protect fuel against [image-nocss] theft, retailers need simple and cost-effective solutions. And, as fuel prices increase and margins decrease, the importance of protecting fuel inventory against theft has never been greater.
Thus, the chosen U.S. retailer will receive free fuel-dispenser and point-of-sale-system upgrades, as well as assessment and advice to meet PCI compliance requirements.
Gilbarco will install FlexPay Encrypting PIN Pad upgrades and FlexPay Secure Card Readers at the existing Gilbarco dispensers, provide PABP-approved Passport Version 6 software and compliant PIN Pads inside the store, and possibly address other issues that are identified during the assessment phase.
"Payment security is important to our customers, and we have designed a modular upgrade program to comply with current and future payment-security standards," said Scott McDowell, Gilbarco's marketing manager for payment systems in North America. "We will demonstrate the power and advantages of this modular approach in our free Extreme Security Makeover."
U.S. sites that have Gilbarco dispensers with CRIND card readers, accept debit and use one of the many payment networks supported in Passport V6 qualify for consideration. The makeover will occur this summer.
