Gilbarco Veeder-Root Beefs Up Multi-Branded Roster

More networks certify Passport with PA-DSS POS system
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Heartland Payment Systems for CITGO, Marathon and unbranded customers, along with RBS WorldPay, have approved Gilbarco Veeder-Root's Passport with PA-DSS point-of-sale (POS) system software for retailers on their networks. They join BP, Chevron, Concord (Gulf, Sinclair, Sunoco, Valero and unbranded), ExxonMobil, NBS/Cenex and Shell software applications that are already shipping. Gilbarco Veeder-Root continues to develop and certify additional networks because the broad approval is important to multi-branded retailers who benefit from using the same POS system [image-nocss] at all their locations.

"Even though we operate sites with different brands and networks, it is important to us to manage our business as a whole with common strategy from our headquarters. Passport gives us the same core functions across all our sites, regardless of network," said Leah Taylor, president of Cumberland Lake Inc., Somerset, Ky. "Passport was our logical choice for upgrading to PA-DSS from G-SITE. With Marathon's certification of Passport, we are ready to complete the upgrades in our Marathon sites as we have already done with our Shell locations."

Passport systems are being installed across the country as retailers approach the July 1 Payment Card Industry (PCI) deadlines to replace POS systems that do not meet PCI requirements. The PCI Security Standards Council has validated Gilbarco Veeder-Root's Enhanced Dispenser Hub, included with Passport V8.02 and V8.03, as compliant with the Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS).

Passport's unique architecture segregates all PA-DSS software into a single device to mitigate the impact of on-going changes by PCI. Retailers still benefit from remote diagnostics and Gilbarco's 24 x 7 x 365 Help Desk that enable most troubleshooting, fixes and software upgrades to be completed without on-site service calls and site downtime. Passport continues to allow retailers to keep selling fuel if their server is offline. And Passport with PA-DSS allows retailers to continue to print both masked and secured network reports where network policies allow it.

Passport provides a touchscreen interface that minimizes training time, errors and shrinkage. It offers connectivity and standardization to support the largest number of third-party partners and programs, business information and security features, business growth tools and expandability.

Meanwhile, Gilbarco Veeder-Root is hosting free Passport POS system training and also demonstrating remote diagnostics and help desk at NACStech May 5-7 in New Orleans, bringing key benefits of the system to the show floor.

Current Passport users were able to take advantage of free Passport POS training, "How to operate Passport in a PA-DSS compliant world."

Passport's PA-DSS architecture provides new benefits to retailers, including complete segregation of all PA-DSS software modules into a single device, the Enhanced Dispenser Hub. This mitigates the impact of future PCI changes and simplifies development of future value-added POS features.

The session reviewed the new Passport V8.02 feature/function set and best practices for using the Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS) validated POS system within a PCI compliant retail operation. Attendees also learned what is included in the V8.02/8.03 upgrade kits and accompanying documentation.

In addition, Gilbarco Veeder-Root is bringing its Passport Help Desk to NACStech to demonstrate the remote diagnostics, repair and update features of the POS system. These features enable Gilbarco's 24x7x365 Greensboro, N.C. Help Desk to support the site, usually without an onsite service call, and automate the process of updating software remotely.

The company also featured the Gilbarco Encore S fuel dispensers with Applause Media System for interactive promotion of in-store merchandise and on-demand coupon printing at the fuel island; FlexPay Encrypting PIN Pad retrofits for updating fuel dispensers to meet Payment Card Industry (PCI) requirements for accepting debit at the pump; and the Wisdom Intelligent Device Management system for remotely controlling coolers, lights, heating/air conditioning and overall energy consumption at one or many stores.

Greensboro, N.C.-based Gilbarco Veeder-Root is a leading global supplier of integrated fuel control, site management and support services for petroleum marketers and commercial fueling enterprises. Products include dispensers, payment systems, tank gauges, submersible pumps, point of sale systems and remote monitoring of site functionality.
