Gilbarco Veeder-Root Launches POS Solution for Small Retailers

Passport Edge designed for ease of use

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Gilbarco Veeder-Root has launched Passport Edge, a tablet-based point-of-sale (POS) system optimized for convenience stores. Designed for small businesses, Passport Edge uses the foundation of Passport, the company’s pre-existing product, to create a streamlined POS system with a smaller front-counter footprint.

The system supports up to 10 fueling positions and two cashier workstations, according to Karen Dyer, product marketing manager for Gilbarco Veeder-Root, who spoke about the product during the company’s Retail and Fuel Technology Conference in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Dyer also said Gilbarco Veeder-Root would begin shipping Passport Edge in July 2018.

Passport Edge is a subscription-based, on-premise solution with no long-term contract. The system is what Gilbarco refers to as a Thin Client, because it is a tablet, whereas a Thick Client would be a larger POS system such as the existing Passport product. The system is EMV-ready out of the box. C-stores also have access to a remote help desk that is available 24 hours a day, every day.

The system’s touchscreen controls are modeled after commercial mobile devices to make training employees on the device easier. Passport Edge offers small business owners a path into the Gilbarco ecosystem. It can also help bring fuel sites to compliance with brand standards.

“As a company, we’re always trying to find new ways to solve problems for our customers. Passport Edge is the answer for many business owners who want to stay on the forefront of technology without worrying about budget constraints. It’s an exciting new piece to our product portfolio that will help our customers hit the ground running toward the future,” said Eric Bagden, director of Gilbarco Retail Solutions.

Gilbarco Veeder-Root, Greensboro, N.C., offers retail and commercial fueling operations solutions from the forecourt to the convenience store and head office. Major product lines include fuel dispensers, pump media, point-of-sale systems, payment systems, tank gauges, software development and integration, fleet management systems, and nozzles.
