Hough Petroleum Automates Fuel Pricing

New Jersey distributor picks PriceAdvantage software to speed up processes

EWING, N.J. — Multibranded fuel distributor Hough Petroleum chose PriceAdvantage software for its store-specific fuel-pricing strategies at its company-owned and -operated locations.

The goal for Hough was to centralize critical fuel-pricing data and present it in a strategic format as well as create automated prices changes—with price change confirmation—from a mobile device, the company said.

A call to Hough Petroleum headquarters for comment and to determine the number of stores involved was not returned by press time.

Colorado Springs, Colo.-based PriceAdvantage is a fuel-price management software company and division of Skyline Products. “Hough is like many other family-owned fuel retailers; they can no longer effectively compete with the larger chains by using spreadsheets, emails and phone calls to manage their fuel pricing,” said Chip Stadjuhar, president and CEO of Skyline Products. “Our software will not only save them man hours, but it will give them real-time insight into market changes and opportunities.”

Hough selected the PriceAdvantage software as a service (SaaS) as a way to use a cloud-service model, which includes benefits of low upfront maintenance and implementation costs, as well as ease of implementation. It also selected the mobile component, which allows the company to make price determinations from a mobile device.

“We know that PriceAdvantage will help us optimize our prices to take advantage of market opportunities,” said Gary Hough, president of Hough Petroleum, Ewing, N.J. “Additionally, it will provide us with a level of confidence knowing that not only are we making more strategic pricing decisions but I will receive confirmation that those price changes were made when requested.”

PriceAdvantage enables customers to make rapid, informed fuel-pricing decisions based on their unique business rules, then automatically post new prices to their point-of-sale systems, fuel pumps and price signs. Once implemented, operators receive price-change confirmation in just minutes.
