ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc. has implemented Neogent Inc.'s Velocity Identity Package (VIP). Neogent's VIP has been designed to dramatically reduce the overall cost as well as total implementation time specifically for the Sun Java System Identity Manager product.
The retailer has a user base of approximately 10,000 employees. Due to the high turnover rate experienced in the gas station/convenience store industry, establishing a strong identity management solution was vital to help Sheetz provision, de-provision and manage passwords throughout the company, [image-nocss] the technology company said. This ability allows Sheetz to control roles and permissions companywide, reducing the time to grant users access to systems and ensuring that users are promptly deleted from systems when employment is terminated.
A provider of identity and access-management solutions, Austin, Texas-based Neogent leverages Sun Microsystems's software to help organizations streamline operations, reduce administrative costs and address security and compliance requirements. The Sun Java System Identity Manager, one of six products within the Sun identity management product portfolio, allows customers to enable integrated user provisioning and identity synchronization services for efficiently and securely managing identity profiles and permissions throughout an entire identity lifecycle.
Based on experience with the Sun Java System Identity Manager, Neogent developed VIP to reduce the time to production, offering customers a scalable solution. Most identity and access management implementations take 8 to 15 months, but with Neogent's VIP, customers are able to deploy in 45 days or less, the company said. As a result, Neogent's clients are able to experience a quicker time-to-market and a dramatic cost reduction, it claimed.
By bundling all of the associated software, hardware and professional services into one low, fixed price, Neogent's VIP is basically identity in a box, the company said.
