Love’s Foodservice Tech Deal Leverages Internet of Things

Retailer implementing cold-chain solution in restaurants chainwide

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores Inc. has signed a multiyear agreement to implement Digi International Inc.’s task management and food temperature monitoring solution across its entire chain.

Minnetonka, Minn.-based Digi is a provider of machine-to-machine (M2M) and internet-of-things connectivity products and services.

With this agreement, Love’s will implement Digi’s technology-supported service to ensure that all of its restaurants deliver a high level of food quality and safety to their customers. Digi’s solution automates food-temperature monitoring and task logging to greatly simplify the effort for employees while ensuring public health compliance. Additionally, Love’s will gain enterprise-wide insight and reporting, allowing it to implement best-practice processes and systems throughout all locations.

A subscription-based service, Digi’s task management application allows restaurants to capture and manage daily tasks and temperature logs on any smartphone. Wireless temperature sensors and internet-of-things technology ensure consistency and compliance with local and company food-safety standards. Enterprise-level cloud-based reporting provides real-time insights, allowing managers to improve operational efficiency. Tasks can be assigned and customized by role, defined by time slot (morning, afternoon and evening or open and close), frequency (hourly, daily, weekly or monthly) and set for alert notifications.

Digi included hardware and software as part of the subscription, which requires no capital expense. The information is hosted on servers managed by Digi International.

“Part of our core values is to ‘focus on the customer in everything we do’ and embrace innovative thinking,” said Joe Cotton, director of restaurant services for Love’s. “[Digi will] help us deliver the very best experience to our customers as we set the industry standard for foodservice quality.”

Oklahoma City-based Love’s has more than 400 locations in 40 states.
