Remembering Teri Richman

Consultant, friend drove many industry advancements with passion
FAIRFAX, Va. -- The convenience-store industry lost a longtime supporter this past weekend. Teri Richman, a former NACS employee and consultant, died Saturday after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

"When I think of Teri and the 12 years we worked together at NACS, two words come to mindpassion and humor," said former coworker Jane Berzan. "Her passion for what she believed inwhether she was focused on a project at work, a social cause or helping a friend or colleaguewas genuine, consistent and heartfelt.

"At the same time, she had a terrific sense of humor, which [image-nocss] often helped us through difficult discussions during day-long budget meetings or afterward as we discussed the day. I spent the afternoon with Teri just two days before she passed and it is clear that her passion, her caring for others and her sense of humor were still with her despite what she was dealing with in her final hours."

The former senior vice president of research and developmentfor NACSwas instrumental in developing the NACS State of the Industry (SOI) Report, as well as technology standards for the industry. A graduate of Boston University, she most recently worked as a political organization consultant and contractor.

"Teri Richman was a class act and a credit to NACS," said industry consultant Dick Meyer, who worked with Richman on many projects. "She was a true student of the industry. Her passion for SOI and other initiatives that she professionally orchestrated was evident to all that worked with her. My sincerest sympathy to herchildren and extended family."

"Teri is a great example of everything that is good about the convenience-store industry. Her death, for so many of us, is a significant loss," said Paul Reuter, president and editorial director of CSP Information Group. "The passion she brought to the projects she worked on, particularly SOI, was evident in everything she did. She was a good friend to me and a good friend to the industry. She will be missed."

Added Berzan, "I am so glad to have had the opportunity to know Teri; she was an inspiration to many and will be greatly missed."

Richman, 54,is survived by her twin adult children, Nathan and Katharine. The family is planning a memorial service in late January for family and close friends.

CSP sends its condolences to Richman's family and friends.
