Rutter's Introduces App for Blackberry Smart Phones

Complements iPhone app introduced last year

YORK, Pa. -- Rutter's Farm Stores has introduced a free app for BlackBerry smart phones, complementing the Rutter's iPhone app introduced last year.

Both apps are available as free downloads from www.rutters.com. The iPhone app also is available from the Apple App Store; the BlackBerry app will be available from BlackBerry App World within a couple of weeks, the company said.

"BlackBerry and iPhone are the two biggest players when it comes to smart phones," said Scott Hartman, president and CEO of Rutter's Farm [image-nocss] Stores. "Consumers are more mobile than ever, and Rutter's wants to be right there with them."

By downloading the apps, customers can get directions to their nearest Rutter's stores, check current gas prices, and redeem paperless mobile coupons sent directly to their smart phones.

With the apps, customers can register their Rutter's Rewards loyalty cards, which when used on purchases of more than 1,600 everyday items will earn them cents off gasoline. More than 160,000 customers have saved money on gasoline since the debut of Rutter's Rewards.

Clicking on the Rutter's Rewards icon on his or her smart phone displays will bring up a customer's unique member number and bar code, which can be used for transactions instead of a Rutter's Rewards card or key fob.

Rutter's plans to introduce an app for Droid mobile devices in a few weeks, it added.

Family-owned and third-generation managed, York, Pa.-based Rutter's Farm Stores operates 55 convenience stores in York, Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin and Lancaster counties in Pennsylvania.
