Shell Operator Truenorth Selects MegaPath

Tech firm to deliver VPN, security to 100 stations

TOLEDO, Ohio -- Truenorth Management, an operator of 120 Shell locations in Ohio, has purchased MegaPath Inc.'s line of fully managed security, virtual private networks (VPN) and broadband services to support the corporate Shell Coolband initiative.

MegaPath will provide Truenorth with the complete infrastructure to securely support the data communications requirements for approximately 100 locations. The company's broadband connectivity combined with its fully managed VPN and security services will enable Truenorth to increase employee productivity [image-nocss] and reduce communication expenses, while also helping ensure that its critical applications, information and customer transactions are protected.

"Truenorth Management needed an authorized infrastructure provider that could address our Shell Coolband requirements, while also supporting our company goals," said Mary B. Lyden, vice president of IT at Truenorth Management LLC, Toledo, Ohio. "This will not only save us money on redundant phone lines, but it will also reduce the time required to manage all of our in-store applications."

Truenorth will use MegaPath to support the monitoring of its point-of-sale (POS) system and conduct credit card, debit card and fleet card transactions. MegaPath's PCI compliant services will provide Truenorth locations with a seamless connection to processors and ensure that its customers' confidential credit and debit card information is secure from theft. With MegaPath, Truenorth can also monitor its store fuel tanks, access in-store DVR security surveillance equipment and support backoffice applications, including payroll, email, accounting and human resources. Users at its retail locations will be able to access the company Intranet to submit time sheets, print pay stubs and access corporate policy documents and forms.

"The Shell Coolband initiative was created to help operators decrease costs, while increasing security and productivity," said Jim Cragg, president and COO at MegaPath. "Through our line of fully managed phone, Internet and security services, MegaPath enables our customers to focus on their business objectives rather than the infrastructure to support their operations."

Costa Mesa, Calif.-based MegaPath is a North American provider of managed IP communications services. It leverages a variety of broadband connectivity, VPN, Voice over IP (VoIP) and security technologies to enable businesses to lower costs, increase security and enhance productivity. Businesses of all sizes can easily and securely communicate between their headquarters, branch offices, retail locations, mobile workers and business partners.
