Speedway Picks In-Pump POS

NCR to provide EMV payment, loyalty solution

ENON, Ohio -- Upgrading its in-pump POS-terminal network at its 2,770 stores in 22 states, Speedway convenience stores have partnered with technology provider NCR for an open-software platform to manage at-pump systems and offer customers personalized experiences.

Speedway will use NCR’s Optic point-of-sale product, a modular, self-serve, in-pump solution. It comes Europay MasterCard Visa (EMV)-ready with a touch screen, a contactless reader that can communicate with mobile phones, a two-dimensional bar-code scanner and a magnetic-stripe reader.

NCR, Duluth, Ga., offers Optic in two sizes: a 5-inch terminal for use with older dispensers, and a 12-inch widescreen—one of the biggest and most powerful retrofit options on the market, according to NCR officials.

“We are a customer-focused organization and, as such, we are always looking for ways to add speed and simplicity for consumers, whether they are fueling, eating or shopping in our stores,” said Tony Kenney, president of Speedway. “NCR’s Optic solution allows us to continue to provide exceptional service for our valued customers.”

The NCR Optic solution is a platform for many features, allowing Speedway to use an open-source solution, further enhancing the shopper experience with its Speedy Rewards loyalty solution.

“Speedway is a leader in the convenience store industry,” said Michael Bayer, president of NCR Retail. “Extending the relationship with Speedway and providing our latest pay-at-the-pump solutions opens the door to more innovation. Our focus is to help customers, such as Speedway, build more efficient, profitable and connected businesses.”

Speedway is one of the nation’s largest company-owned and -operated convenience-store chains and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Marathon Petroleum Corporation, Findlay, Ohio.

With more than 30,000 employees doing business in 180 countries, NCR Corp. focuses on consumer-transaction technologies, turning everyday interactions with businesses into valued experiences. With its software, hardware and portfolio of services, NCR enables more than 550 million transactions daily across retail, financial, travel, hospitality, telecom and technology, and small business.
