CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas --Stripes Convenience Stores received an incentive check for $39,192 from AEP Texas' Commercial Solutions Program for retrofitting, upgrading and improving its heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, outdoor LED and LED lighting in its Texas-based Stripes Stores within the AEP Texas footprint.
The no-cost Commercial Solutions Program provides technical and financial support to help commercial facilities identify and implement energy efficiency upgrade projects.
The companies determined the incentive by the total amount of energy Stripes c-stores will save. The new and improved upgrades will save more than 1,599,173 kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, equivalent to 101 homes' electricity use per year according to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) calculations.
The program provided financial incentives and no-cost technical assistance to ensure the facility selected the appropriate high-efficiency equipment. As part of its participation in the program, Stripes Stores are committed to evaluate additional efficiency opportunities.
"Since joining the AEP Texas Commercial Solutions Program in early 2009, our team has been deploying best-in-class in high energy efficient HVAC equipment and LED lighting technologies," said Richard Sebastian, senior vice president facilities, construction and APT for Susser Holdings Corp.
As part of its charge as an energy delivery company, AEP Texas is responsible for offering a diverse array of energy efficiency programs that will reduce electric demand and conserve natural resources.
"We identified a real need for an energy efficiency program that specifically targets our commercial customers," said Monica Craig, AEP EE/DR coordinator. "This program is an organized effort to bring needed energy efficiency to Texas."
AEP, with headquarters in Columbus, Ohio, is one of the largest electric utilities in the United States, delivering electricity to more than 5.3 million customers in 11 states.
Based in Corpus Christi, Texas, Susser Holdings is a third-generation, family-led business with more than 1,240 company-operated or contracted locations. It is the parent company of Stripes and owns the general partner of Susser Petroleum Partners LP. The company operates 627 convenience stores in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma, more than 580 under the Stripes banner and 47 under the Sac-N-Pac banner. Restaurant service is available in approximately 400 of its stores, primarily under the proprietary Laredo Taco Co. brand. The wholesale division distributes approximately 1.6 billion gallons of motor fuel annually to Stripes stores, independently operated consignment locations, convenience stores and retail fuel outlets operated by independent operators and other commercial customers in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
