Stripes' Is the Word

Retailer launches 2009 summer text promotion; employees compete for charity
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Susser Holdings Corp.'s Stripes convenience store chain last week began giving away $2,500 a day in a text-to-win sweepstakes that runs through July 3.

Participants text the word "Stripes" to 29627 every day at exactly 5:30 p.m. for a chance to win. The first 25 people to text in each day win $100 cash. Everyone who joins the Stripes text club will receive a free Stripes item; once in the club, members will receive exclusive deals all summer via text from Stripes.

Through July 3, there are 475 chances to win, the company said.

When [image-nocss] the participant's text message is received and recorded by the promotion computer, he or she will receive a notification if he or she is one of the 25 potential winners. The mobile device's phone number will automatically be recorded by the promotion computer. Text message participants will receive their play result, and will then be prompted to opt-in for future text alerts containing offers, deals and promotions valid at participating Stripes locations. They can opt-out of these future text messages and alerts at any time by texting the word "nobCrLf to 29627. Limit one registration/signup per person and mobile device phone number per day.

In other company news, two Stripes employee teams recently competed in the 34th Annual Beach to Bay Relay. The marathon was divided into six legs, making up a total of 26.2 miles that were routed from Padre Balli Park on the island to Cole Park downtown.

"I was lucky enough to be a new employee at Stripes and found an inspirational team that I could be a part of. Several of my team members have been running for some time and that gave me the encouragement I needed to fulfill this goal," said Melissa Vera-Carrasco.

Altogether there were 1,987 teams that competed this year and raised more than $50,000 for scholarships and various Corpus Christi nonprofit organizations.
