Wayne, Gilbarco Veeder Root Integrate Isis 'SmartTap' Mobile App

Payment option lets consumers pay, present loyalty cards, redeem offers with phones at pump

NEW YORK -- Isis,the mobile commerce joint venture created by AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless, has announced that two major pump manufacturers, Wayne, a GE Energy Business, and Gilbarco Veeder-Root, agreed to provide integrated support for the Isis "SmartTap" mobile commerce application.

The mobile payment option allows consumers to pay, present loyalty cards and redeem offers with a single tap of their "Isis Ready" phones at the gasoline pump.

"The gas pump is one of the most frequented point-of-sale environments, and a critically important addition to the mobile commerce marketplace," said Scott Mulloy, chief technology officer for Isis, New York. "Isis is pleased to announce relationships with market leaders Wayne and Gilbarco Veeder-Root. It creates an important opportunity for convenience stores to enhance the customer experience, thereby increasing loyalty and in-store traffic."

Gilbarco Veeder-Root and Wayne SmartTap-enabled dispensers will be installed at select retail locations to accompany Isis' market launch in Austin, Texas, and Salt Lake City, Utah.

Greensboro, N.C.-based Gilbarco Veeder-Root's modular payment architecture will be equipped to accept SmartTap in new, factory-installed fuel dispensers and retrofitted fuel dispensers currently installed at c-stores across the country.

Austin, Texas-based Wayne will integrate the Isis SmartTap mobile commerce application into the contactless/NFC (near-frequency communication) reader used with the "Wayne iX Pay Secure Payment" solution. The solution sophisticated data security options including EMV (Europay MasterCard Visa) and PCI (payment card industry) compliance.

"Integrating the Isis SmartTap mobile commerce application will open entirely new payment, loyalty and promotional opportunities for consumers and fuel retailers using Wayne dispensers and technologies," said Paul de la Port, vice president of products for Wayne. "We believe the simplicity and convenience of mobile commerce will have enormous appeal for consumers and retailers alike."

Gilbarco Veeder-Root and Wayne are the latest addition to Isis' expanding list of partners--payment systems suppliers, handset manufacturers, banks, payment networks and merchants--

building the infrastructure and scale necessary for mass adoption of mobile commerce.

The joint venture is between AT&T Mobility LLC, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless, Isis is based in New York City. The venture is chartered with building Isis, a national mobile commerce venture that will fundamentally transform how people shop, pay and save. The Isis mobile commerce network will be available to all merchants, banks, payment networks and mobile carriers.
