CHS’s competitive advantage is that its brands offer friendly customer service and a variety of energy products, including refined fuel, propane, lubricants and related equipment; its owned and operated Cenex Zip Trip stores are a major brand in the state of Washington.

CHS Inc. (formerly Cenex Harvest States Cooperatives)—a diversified energy, grains and foods company owned by farmers, ranchers, cooperatives and thousands of preferred stockholders—owns the Cenex and Zip Trip c-store brands. The only company-operated stores are the Zip Trip units. The nation’s largest co-operative refiner, CHS operates petroleum refineries/pipelines and manufactures, markets and distributes refined fuels, renewable fuels, lubricants and propane, primarily under the Cenex brand. Cenex energy products are distributed through a network of more than 1,400 Cenex branded retailers in 19 states, including the 74 Cenex Zip Trip c-store locations primarily in the Spokane, Washington market. Cenex is one of the largest c-store networks in North America. Other than Zip Trip, the Cenex brand c-stores are independently owned and managed by operators who have total control over the floor plan, layout, stock, foodservice, category reset and services offered at their own location(s). All stores offer a wide range of snacks and prepared foods and beverages.
