Roadrunner Markets, a chain of convenience stores owned and operated by Mountain Empire Oil Co., was founded in 1977 in Johnson City, Tenn. The company’s mission, according to its website, is “to delight the customer in a way that makes them come back tomorrow.” Many of the stores fly the Shell gasoline brand, while others are branded BP and Sunoco. The company is also a Sunoco distributor. Besides gasoline, several stations offer kerosene, diesel and racing gasoline. The stores distinguish themselves in the market also by offering special local services to customers such as accepting utility payments or offering check cashing.
