Couche-Tard Closes Circle K Real-Estate Deal

Acquires properties with convenience stores already in its network

LAVAL, Quebec --Circle K Stores Inc., a division of Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc., has closed a real-estate deal with Greatstone Equities Inc. involving 62 convenience stores in nine states.

Initial reports indicated that Circle K had acquired additional c-stores; however, Karen Romer, director of global communications for Laval, Quebec-based Alimentation Couche-Tard, told CSP Daily News, “We did not add 62 sites to our store count. … We actually just rented the sites those stores were on. We already operated those stores. We just had an opportunity to buy the property they were on.”

As reported in a McLane Co./CSP Daily News Flash, the convenience stores are located in Arizona, California, Florida, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Texas and Washington.

Las Vegas-based investment firm Greatstone Equities purchased some of the stores in May 1996 from Dallas-based Edgemont Realty Partners Ltd., said a report in The Greater Baton Rouge Business Journal.

Couche-Tard's network includes more than 8,000 convenience stores in North America, including more than 6,575 stores offering fuel. Its North American network consists of 15 business units, including 11 in the United States covering 41 states (most currently branded Circle K or Kangaroo Express) and four in Canada covering all 10 provinces (most currently branded Mac’s and Couche-Tard).
