The supermarket retailer sold four c-stores in Champaign, Urbana and Savoy, Ill., and Festus, Mo., to Cuba, Mo.-based Wallis Oil Co.

"At this time, we have decided to focus our efforts on the customers of our supermarkets--our core business," Schnucks spokesperson Paul Simon told CSP Daily News.

"All Schnucks teammates who worked at the fuel centers are being offered positions in our stores," he said. "There will be no job loss."

He added that the customer fuel rewards program will continue at the four sites under Wallis Oil.

Simon told The News-Gazette that Wallis Oil will begin running the stores on May 2.

In 2011, Schnucks sold seven Schnucks Express units in the Memphis, Tenn., area to The Kroger Co., Cinncinati.

Cuba, Mo.-based petroleum marketer Wallis Cos. owns and operates 34 On the Run convenience store offering Mobil-branded fuels. It also distributes gasoline to approximately 175 gas stations under the BP, Conoco, Exxon, Mobil and Phillips 66 brands.

Founded in 1939, St. Louis-based Schnuck Markets Inc. is a third-generation, family-owned grocery and pharmacy retailer. It operates 99 stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa.
