Spinx Sinks Its Teeth Into the Midlands

Acquires seven convenience stores in Columbia, S.C., area from 7-Eleven

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Following expansion into the Charleston, S.C., market, The Spinx Co. has acquired seven convenience stores located in and around Columbia, S.C., from 7-Eleven Inc.

Spinx executives hand selected these sites based on geography and opportunity for growth, among other factors, the company said. The stores, located from Lexington and Irmo to Columbia and Orangeburg, operate under either the Sunoco or Hickory Point brand.

"These seven stores are great additions to The Spinx Co.'s operations, and we're excited to make them a part of our continued growth," said Stan Storti, president of Spinx.

As reported in a 21st Century Smoke/CSP Daily News Flash, the store takeover process began in early August, and Spinx began operating the last of the seven new locations in Orangeburg, on Sept. 9.

In addition to the switch out of product, each store immediately began issuing and redeeming Spinx's signature rewards program, Spinx Xtras. The Xtras loyalty program offers gasoline discounts to customers for every $25 spent inside the store, for purchase of monthly Xtraspecials, and for gasoline purchases when the customer uses the card as a method of payment.

With the addition of these seven, Spinx now has nine stores in what is known as the Midlands region of the Palmetto State.

The company's move into the Midlands follows a major push into the Charleston market, where it has built four new stores and has two more scheduled to open later this year.

With this acquisition, Greenville, S.C.-based Spinx now owns and operates 81 convenience stores in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Chicago-based NRC Realty & Capital Advisors LLC represented 7-Eleven, Dallas, in the transaction.
