The $1.57 billion sale of convenience-store chain GetGo Cafe + Market to Laval, Quebec-based Circle K owner Alimentation Couche-Tard is complete.

The deal, which includes about 270 GetGo and WetGo locations, was effective Sunday, Giant Eagle Inc., owner of GetGo, said Monday. The supermarket chain agreed to sell its GetGo convenience stores to Alimentation Couche-Tard in August 2024.

On Thursday, the Federal Trade Commission approved the acquisition. To resolve antitrust concerns, the FTC said Couche-Tard must divest 35 gas stations, which will be acquired by Majors Management, LLC. Couche-Tard has agreed to sell 35 locations, including 34 Circle K locations and one GetGo property.

GetGo will make up a new separate business unit within Couche-Tard. Leading the business unit as vice president of operations is Mike Maraldo, a 33-year Giant Eagle veteran who has been vice president of operations for GetGo since 2022. GetGo President Terri Micklin left the company in April and in May joined 7-Eleven as senior vice president of store development and facilities.

Giant Eagle and Couche-Tard have agreed to partner on maintaining and expanding the myPerks loyalty program, with customers continuing to earn and redeem rewards across Giant Eagle and GetGo locations, Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania-based Giant Eagle said. Additionally, customers enrolled in the myPerks Pay Direct and AdvantagePAY programs will continue to benefit from instant fuel discounts at GetGo.

In celebration of the transaction’s completion and the new loyalty partnership, GetGo will offer customers a free self-serve beverage and will award three times the perks on every gallon of fuel purchased with a myPerks loyalty card at all GetGo locations July 19 and 20.

“The transaction will also allow Giant Eagle to focus on growing its core supermarket and pharmacy businesses to better serve customers across more than 200 locations,” the company said.

In the coming months, Giant Eagle plans to announce a series of initiatives aimed at “expanding the offerings and value it delivers across the communities it serves,” the company said.

  • GetGo is No. 31 on CSP’s 2025 Top 202 ranking of U.S. c-store chains by store count. Alimentation Couche-Tard is No. 2.

Bill Artman, president and CEO of Giant Eagle, said the sale of the GetGo marks an important moment in Giant Eagle’s history.

“It is both a catalyst for investment into the communities we have served for more than 90 years and an assurance that one of the most valuable savings opportunities we provide to customers, our myPerks loyalty program, will remain with earning and redemption options at both Giant Eagle and GetGo,” he said.

Bart Friedman, Giant Eagle board chair, said, “We are excited that Couche-Tard, a leading global convenience-store operator, has realized the value in GetGo and its talented Team Members. Giant Eagle has spent 20 years growing GetGo into the strong brand it is today, and we are confident that this transaction positions both companies for continued success.”

Alex Miller, president and CEO of Couche-Tard, said that GetGo has earned a passionate following in the communities it serves “thanks to an amazing team delivering a best-in-class food offer, in-store experience and loyalty program. We’re excited that they are now part of the Couche-Tard family, and we look forward to investing in the brand, empowering its continued success, and collaborating closely with Giant Eagle to create even more value for the customers we serve together.”

In addition to Giant Eagle’s sale of its GetGo business to Couche-Tard, the company also recently closed on the sale of its wholesale motor fuels distribution business to Cary Oil company, Inc.

Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania-based GetGo operates convenience retail and fueling locations across Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland and Indiana and has about 3,500 employees.
