Nabut Brothers LLC, operator of the Birdie’s Food & Fuel chain, acquired two Circle K convenience stores in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, from Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. in early August, the Laval, Quebec-based seller confirmed for CSP Daily News

Luling, Louisiana-based Nabut Brothers purchased the stores for a combined $2.87 million, according to Elifin Realty. The Evangeline Street location went for $1.55 million, while the Drusilla Lane location sold for $1.32 million.

Alimentation Couche-Tard “made the decision to divest them as part of our ongoing network optimization process,” a company spokesperson told CSP.

The first Birdie’s Food & Fuel opened in Hahnville, Louisiana, in 2005, according to the Nabut Brothers’ website. Within three years, Birdie’s grew to five convenience stores, and to eight by 2010. The independent retailer now has 20 Birdies’s c-stores, one supermarket and one Cheap Smokes tobacco shop in southeastern Louisiana.

The chain features its proprietary fried chicken, as well as French fries, jalapeños and meat pies.
