Campbell Oil acquires gasoline, fuel division of Smith Oil

Campbell Oil Co., owner of the Minuteman Food Mart convenience stores, has acquired the gasoline and fuel division of Smith Oil Co., the company announced Thursday. 

  • Campbell Oil Co./Minuteman Food Mart is No. 117 on CSP’s2025 Top 202 ranking of U.S. c-store chains by store count.

The acquisition expands Campbell Oil Co.’s fuel services further across Sampson County, North Carolina, and surrounding areas, the company said. Smith Oil Co. is a family-owned fuel provider based in Salemburg, North Carolina. 

Campbell Oil Co. distributes fuel, propane and service solutions to residential, agricultural and commercial customers. It said it is committed to partnering with independent, family-owned businesses, and is actively pursuing strategic acquisitions with established fuel and energy providers seeking a partner.  

Billy and Helen Smith of Smith Oil Co. will remain actively involved during the transaction, Campbell Oil said. 

“Smith Oil Co. has built a reputation for reliability, craftsmanship and customer-first service,” said Tracy Hardin, vice president of short truck operations for Campbell Oil Co. “We are honored to continue that legacy while expanding service capabilities and long-term support for customers in Sampson County.”

Campbell Oil Co. is based in Elizabethtown, North Carolina. Its c-store division Minuteman Food Mart has been serving communities since 1976 and operated 62 locations as of Jan. 1, 2025.
