Casey’s General Stores Inc. has acquired the four remaining Kum & Go convenience stores in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, from Maverik Inc., as well as two c-stores in Iowa, CSP has learned. The retailer began operating the locations as Casey’s stores last week, a company spokesperson said.

The acquisition follows Casey’s purchase of eight convenience stores in Michigan from Maverik in late September. Those stores—seven former Kum & Go c-stores picked up when Maverik acquired Kum & Go in August 2023 from the Krause Group and one additional store—represented Salt Lake City-based Maverik’s entire portfolio in the state. The company began the process last year of rebranding Kum & Go’s approximately 400 stores with the intent to unify the entire combined footprint under the Maverik brand.

Casey’s now has 14 stores in Sioux Falls, according to the Argus Leader, which first reported the acquisition.

In addition to the stores in Michigan and South Dakota stores, the transaction with Maverik also included two Kum & Go stores in Iowa, the Ankeny, Iowa-based company told CSP. The stores are in De Soto and Grimes, Iowa.

  • Casey’s General Stores Inc. is No. 3 on CSP2025 Top 202 ranking of convenience-store chains by store count. Maverik is No. 12.

In June, Salt Lake City-based Maverik sold three Kum & Go c-stores in Nebraska to Mega Saver. In August, Maverik also sold 20 Kum & Go c-stores in Iowa to the Omaha, Nebraska-based retailer.

Under both the Maverik and Kum & Go brands, Maverik, with a total of more than 800-stores, operates in 20 states—Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming and Iowa.

Maverik did not respond to a CSP request for comment.
