C&S Fuels Acquires Scott Petroleum

Deal includes 7 convenience stores

NEWPORT, Ark. — C&S Fuels LLC has purchased fuel distributor Scott Petroleum Corp., according to a report by the Greenwood Commonwealth. The companies completed the sale, which includes seven convenience stores, for an undisclosed price on July 15.

Solon Scott Sr. founded Scott Petroleum in 1935 as Scott Butane Gas Systems Inc. Solon Scott Jr. took over leadership of the company in 1957. It offers a complete line of petroleum products including LPG, gasoline, diesel, biodiesel, aviation fuel, kerosene, oil and grease, sold through 14 bulk plants that cover northcentral Mississippi and eastern Arkansas and Louisiana. It markets gasoline and diesel fuels to the public through 7 c-stores and two automated fueling stations, as well as fueling stations at 12 bulk plants.

Scott Petroleum also offers a full line of appliances and equipment, as well as a proprietary fueling card known as the Scott Card that can be used at any of the company’s locations.

C&S Fuels, Newport, Ark., is a family-owned company that distributes fuels and propane in Arkansas and Mississippi.

The purchase will allow Scott Petroleum to “broaden its strength with the management resources and experience that C&S Fuels LLC will bring to the organization,” according to a statement provided to the newspaper.

Scott Petroleum will keep its name and will continue to operate out of its Itta Bena, Miss., headquarters. The management team will also remain intact, with Solon Scott Jr. as president.

“I would like to express my sincere thanks to the over 300 dedicated employees who have worked diligently to help make Scott Petroleum such a success and also to our customers for their loyal patronage,” Scott, who staying on temporarily in an advisory capacity, said in the statement.

He described the sale of his company as a “bittersweet thing.”

“I’m just ready to fold the tent,” he told the paper. “At 84, we all know that the Grim Reaper is not far behind.”
