COOLVILLE, Ohio -- The owner of Cool Spot gas stations and convenience stores in Coolville and Tuppers Plains, Ohio, has sold the two locations to GoMart Inc. for approximately $5 million, reported The Athens Messenger.
Bryan White, president of Cool Country Corp., sold the Cool Spot in Coolville for $3 million, with $1.6 million of that for the building and land, according to the report, citing records in the Athens County Auditor's Office.
The business also includes a restaurant.
Terry Smith, marketing director for GoMart, said the restaurant will continue to operate.
"We've had a lot of people concerned about that," she told the newspaper. "They have a fabulous restaurant there."
Cool Country Corp. sold the Tuppers Plains Cool Spot for $1.95 million, with $1.04 million of that for the building and land, the report said, citing records from Meigs County.
The Tuppers Plains business also includes a deli serving hot foods.
Smith said employees at the two locations were asked to stay. "They have the connections to customers," she said, adding that customers should see more merchandise offerings in the stores.
The Cool Spot purchases are only the latest expansion by GoMart into the area, said the report. "We have been expanding into Ohio. It's a very friendly market," Smith told the Messenger. In 2012, the company purchased three Crossroads gas station and convenience stores in Athens County--two in Athens and one in Nelsonville--as well as a gas station and c-store at Rockbridge in Hocking County.
GoMart is based in Gassaway, W.Va. It currently operates more than 100 gas stations and c-stores in West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio. All Go-Mart stations are unbranded.
