Hy-Vee buys Circle K convenience store in Wausau, Wisconsin

Location is adjacent to County Market grocery store also being acquired

Hy-Vee Inc. is making two new acquisitions in Wausau, Wisconsin. The supermarket and convenience-store retailer is acquiring the County Market grocery store, located at 220 S. 18th Avenue. It is also acquiring the adjacent Circle K convenience store.

"This was a franchisee who opted to sell," a spokesperson for Circle K told CSP.

The County Market will close on Nov. 11 and reopen on Tuesday, Nov. 18 as the Wausau Hy-Vee store. The company will rebrand the Circle K to its Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh convenience- store brand.

Hy-Vee will offer all of the Country Market employees positions with Hy-Vee, the company said.

Laval, Quebec-based Alimentation Couche-Tard operates in 29 countries and territories, with nearly17,300 stores, of which approximately 13,200 offer road transportation fuel. Under the Circle K, Holiday Stationstores and GetGo banners, it is one of the largest convenience-store operators in the United States.

Circle K did not immediately respond to a CSP request for comment on the sale of the convenience store.
