MAXVILLE, Ontario — MacEwen Petroleum Inc., an independent Canadian fuel and retail convenience provider, has acquired the business assets of Quickie Convenience Stores Corp. The Quickie network of 51 c-stores, including 22 gas stations, in eastern Ontario and Gatineau, Quebec, will complement and almost double MacEwen’s portfolio of stores.

Arnold Kimmel and Larry Hartman have been co-owners of Quickie Convenience Stores, Ottawa, Ontario, for 48 years. It was important for them to pass the reins of their business to another privately owned Canadian company, they said, and viewed MacEwen as an ideal fit.

“Our vision for the future is to enhance the customer service experience through modernization investments across our store network. The Quickie brand has a strong legacy in Ottawa and eastern Ontario, and we are excited to expand the brand’s presence and impact with our customers,” said Peter MacEwen, president of MacEwen Petroleum.

MacEwen recognizes the strong legacy of the Quickie brand, he said, and will invest in evolving and expanding its presence across the existing MacEwen network of stores, and through new store growth.

Based in Maxville, Ontario, and founded in 1976, MacEwen Petroleum is an independent energy and retail convenience provider with operations in Ontario, Quebec and Manitoba.

The company’s retail businesses include fuel, convenience and car wash offerings through 57 controlled and 85 dealer-managed locations. It also distributes heating oil, propane and commercial fuels through 15 regional offices in Ontario and Quebec, sells fuel to wholesale and commercial fuel customers and cardlocks and sells lubricants and diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) to commercial customers.
