Mega Saver, a convenience, fuel and cell phone retailer, has closed on the acquisition of more than 20 Kum & Go convenience stores in Iowa from c-store company Maverik Inc. All of the stores will be rebranded to Mega Saver within the next month or two, Kassie Schenck, social media manager for the retailer, told CSP Daily News.
Hot food programs will remain in place, and the company is expanding the merchandise selection, she said.
“As part of the transition, we are retaining all current employees and are thrilled to welcome them into the Mega Saver family,” Schenck said. “Customers can expect the same friendly faces they know, now with our unique product selections and everyday low prices. These locations span communities across Iowa, and we look forward to serving these new areas with the same commitment to value and convenience that Mega Saver is known for.”
The company did not disclose the purchase price.
- Maverik is No. 12 on CSP’s 2025 Top 202 ranking of U.S. c-store chains by store count.
Maverik, based in Salt Lake City, acquired the Kum & Go chain of approximately 400 c-stores in August 2023, doubling its total store count. Maverik has been in the process of rebranding the Kum & Go stores, with the intent to unify its entire combined footprint under the Maverik brand.
Omaha, Nebraska-based Mega Saver acquired three Kum & Go convenience stores in Nebraska from Maverik in June.
Mega Saver has about 40 locations in Nebraska, Iowa and Florida, according to its website, with about half listed as Mega Saver convenience stores and gas stations and the other half listed as phone stores, car repair shops or computer and cellphone repairs stores.
Maverik declined to comment to CSP on the transaction.
