New Convenience-Store Roundup for November 2022
By Greg Lindenberg on Dec. 15, 2022CHICAGO — This edition of CSP's New Convenience-Store Roundup features new-to-industry (NTI) c-store openings, as well as closings, that took place in November 2022.
Oklahoma topped the monthly state tally of retail locations, adding six new stores, three by Casey’s, three by Yesway.
The unscientifically gathered roundup—gleaned from company announcements, websites, email, social media and newspapers around the country, among other sources—is by no means complete, but it serves as a monthly competitive snapshot of newly opened or closed U.S. c-stores, gas stations, truckstops and travel centers.

Many of the stores listed here are owned by independent operators, while others belong to major chains. Some are part of CSP’s Top 202 ranking of c-store chains by size. Some of the owners and operators are new entrepreneurs, and some are industry veterans.
Unless otherwise noted, these NTI locations offer the food, snacks, beverages, tobacco, merchandise, services and amenities found in most c-stores. Most offer fuel. ...

Buc-ee’s opened a new c-store in Athens, Ala., on Nov. 21.

Amazon opened an Amazon Go cashierless c-store in Torrance, Calif., on Nov. 1. The total square footage is approximately 6,100 square feet. Front of house is approximately 2,850 square feet. The store offers a selection of grab-and-go food and beverage items, including beer, wine, and spirits and everyday essentials. This store also features the Made-to-Order kitchen, which offers freshly prepared meals, including breakfast, sandwiches, salads and wraps for customers to choose from or customize. The Made-to-Order kitchen offers breakfast bowls, sandwiches and burritos, hot and cold deli sandwiches, salads and wraps. This store offers a variety of new specialty beverages including Starbucks coffee and on-tap beverages including Stumptown Nitro Cold Brew and Cold Brew, Health-Ade kombuchas, fountain soda from Coca-Cola and ICEE slushies.

Parker’s opened a new Parker’s Kitchen in Savannah, Ga., on Nov. 21. It is a new prototype inspired by Southern vernacular architecture. The location offers a modern, contemporary glass-front look with an expanded retail footprint, optimized layout for higher operational efficiency and a lime-washed brick exterior. The site incorporates a 60-foot metal globe that in the 1950s served as a Savannah Gas Co. natural gas storage tank. The globe anchors the parcel, which is located at one of Savannah’s most high-traffic intersections. The store features an indoor dining area, grab-and-go options and a hot bar with items including chicken tenders, spicy chicken tenders sandwiches, salads, macaroni and cheese and jalapeno cornbread. It offers a complete breakfast menu including egg casserole and sausage, egg and cheese biscuits. It also offers coffee, sweet tea, lemonade, 28-degree beer and fountain drinks with Chewy Ice. Fuel includes unleaded gasoline, diesel and marine fuel.

Casey’s General Stores opened a new Casey’s c-store in Wheeling, Ill., on Nov. 4, a new GoodStop c-store in South Elgin, Ill., on Nov. 11 and a new Casey’s c-store in New Lennox, Ill., on Nov. 17.
Thorntons opened a new c-store in Cary, Ill., on Nov. 18.

Maryland
Royal Farms opened a new c-store in Belair, Md., on Nov. 17.
Foxtrot opened a new c-store in Bethesda, Md., on Nov. 18. The store offers an all-day café experience with coffee, seasonal café drinks, fresh smoothies, breakfast tacos, chef-prepared salads and bowls and grab-and-go meals for lunch and dinner. It also offers local craft beers and wines selected by an in-house sommelier. This location also features a a variety of indoor seating, an oak bar and an outdoor patio.

New Jersey
7-Eleven closed a Lakehurst, N.J., c-store on Nov. 3.
Murphy USA's QuickChek opened a new, 5,670-square-foot c-store in Denville, N.J., on Nov. 29. It uses the chain's “Fresh to Go” interior layout. More than half of the new store is dedicated to freshly prepared food and beverages, including QuickChek’s brewed hot and iced coffees. The site has eight gas pumps.

New York
Quicklee’s Convenience Stores opened a new c-store in Irondequoit, N.Y., on Nov. 14. It features a Mozzeroni’s Pizza & Pasta and a multiple car wash. It will add a Tim Hortons Café and Bake Shop soon.
Byrne Dairy & Deli opened a new c-store in Endwell, N.Y., on Nov. 16.
Stewart’s Shops opened a new c-store in Colonie, N.Y., on Nov. 28.

Casey’s General Stores opened a new c-store in Fairborn, Ohio, on Nov. 10.
Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores opened a new location in Madison, Ohio, on Nov. 17. The site has nine diesel bays and 90 truck parking spaces, 71 car parking spaces, seven RV hookups and a dog park. The more than 13,000-square-foot store features an Arby’s restaurant, the chain’s Fresh Kitchen foodservice concept and bean-to-cup coffee. It also has seven showers, and laundry facilities, as well as a Mobile to Go Zone offering GPS, headsets and smartphone accessories.

Casey’s General Stores opened a new GoodStop c-store in Moore, Okla., on Nov. 4 and Oklahoma City on Nov. 11, and it opened a new Casey’s c-store in Oklahoma City on Nov. 18.
Yesway opened new Allsup’s c-stores in Fort Stockton, Hawley and Millsap, Texas, on Nov. 21.
Willis One Stop in Kingston, Okla., closed its doors in early November.

A cashierless c-store opened in Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., on Nov. 25. The store, which is branded Twice Daily, is operated by foodservice and retail partner Delaware North. It is located near section 323. Offerings include an assortment of packaged beer, spiked seltzers, soda, bottled water, chips, candies and sundries.

Washington
The Seattle Seahawks and Lumen Field opened three new cashierless c-stores in Seattle in November powered by Amazon's Just Walk Out technology and Amazon One for entry and payment with palm recognition. The District Market stores are on the main stadium concourse in sections 103, 105 and 123.

Wisconsin
Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee opened a cashierless c-store, The Market by Michelob ULTRA, on Nov. 16, using Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology and Amazon One. It is located outside of Section 119 on the main concourse.
Kwik Trip opened new c-stores in Spooner, Wis., on Nov. 3 and Paddock Lake, Wis., on Nov. 25.
