R.H. Foster Acquires 6 Leadbetter’s C-Stores in Maine

Sellers are retiring; buyer will rebrand sites to its Freshies flag

R.H. Foster Energy LLC has acquired six Leadbetter’s convenience stores in the Bangor, Maine, market, including three locations in Bangor, two in Holden, Maine, and one in Bucksport, Maine.

“R.H. Foster was founded in Machias, Maine, but our family has called the Bangor region home for over 30 years, and to expand our footprint in this region is very special,” said Katie Fox. executive manager at R.H. Foster Energy, now based in Hampden, Maine. “We have had a longstanding relationship and partnership with Jeff, Tim and Scott Leadbetter, and we are honored that they sold these sites to our family.”

The Leadbetter sites will continue to operate as is while R.H. Foster transitions the sites to its Freshies c-store brand. “As part of this transition, we intend to learn more about the high-quality food that the Leadbetters are known for and to adopt some of those practices to improve our overall food program here at freshies. The relationship that we have with our customers and our communities is something that is incredibly important to our family, and we are pleased to continue to operate these sites and serve these communities,” she said.

“My father Ted Ledbetter and I opened the Hammond St. location nearly 30 years ago,” said Jeff Ledbetter. “Over the years, we have added locations and family members to our portfolio, and we have worked very hard to operate our sites and take care of our employees. We are excited to enjoy retirement and to take on new projects.”

Scott Leadbetter will continue to own a Leadbetter’s Mini Shop in Bangor; Adam Leadbetter will continue to own a Leadbetter's location in Orono, Maine. Neither location is part of this transaction.

Robert H. Foster began delivering heating oil in Machias in 1959. R.H. Foster Energy operates 17 Freshies convenience stores and delis in northern, down east and central Maine, as well as Tri-City Pizza in Bangor. Additionally, the company has six energy companies located in Hampton. Ellsworth, Machias, Lincoln, Penobscot and Beals, Maine, that deliver heating fuels and provide services to residential customers and commercial companies.
