Sunoco Retail LLC has acquired 48 gas stations and convenience stores from Capitol Petroleum Group LLC.

  • Sunoco LP is No. 96 on CSP’s 2025 Top 202 ranking of U.S. convenience-store chains by store count.

Petroleum Capitol and Real Estate LLC (PetroCapRE), which acted as the advisor to Springfield, Virginia-based Capitol Petroleum Group and its affiliated companies, announced the news Monday.

The facilities were in the greater New York area and branded Shell, Exxon, Mobil and Citgo. The sale included a mixture of convenience-store and gas station sites that operated under the commission operator, dealer tank wagon and supply-only dealer class of trade, PetroCapRE said.

Capitol Petroleum Group and its affiliated companies were established in 1997 by Eyob “Joe” Mamo, its CEO. Capitol Petroleum Group still has 35 more Shell-branded locations in the New York metro area, and hundreds more in the Washington, D.C. metro area, PetroCapRE told CSP

“Due to the strategic and concentrated position of [Capitol Petroleum Group’s] retail network, numerous regional and national marketers were involved in the confidential bidding process and we were excited that our firm could help the company achieve their goals through this effective sales process,” John Flippen, managing director at PetroCapRE, said. “This was the perfect time for [Capitol Petroleum Group] to sell these strategic retail sites in what is still a very favorable marketplace for [convenience and gas] operators interested in selling assets and/or exiting the industry.”

Sunoco Retail LLC is a division of Sunoco LP. The Dallas-based company has been growing through bolt-on acquisitions recently.  Already in 2026, Sunoco LP acquired 36 stores from Pops Mart Fuel LLC and 56 stores from Jernigan Oil
