His days begin behind a desk at an office in Clayton, Mo., where he runs the numbers and scouts for red flags in his family’s many businesses. He spends nights welcoming patrons to Rasoi, a very glamorous Indian restaurant in eastern Missouri. In between he does “whatever is necessary,” including overseeing a nascent food-manufacturing plant or manning the register at one of several rather ordinary-looking gas stations even though they pump more gallons than most in the greater St. Louis area.
