7-Eleven Selling Exclusive Ben & Jerry's Flavor

Nutty Caramel Swirl available only at Dallas-based chain's stores

DALLAS -- "7-Eleven is the only place you can find Ben & Jerry's new flavor, Nutty Caramel Swirl," the retailer recently announced on Facebook.

The new flavor is an ice cream filled with peanuts, chunks of fudge and caramel, "with a nougat taste and a nice texture," said a report by Bakersfield College newspaper The Renegade Rip in California.

"When I took my first bite, my mouth was filled with flavors of sweet fudge, crunchy peanuts and sweet but salty caramel. The flavor was delicious but reminded me of a Snickers candy bar. Every bite I took had a peanut, fudge or caramel. Finally after about my fifth bite, I got a scoop of just nougat ice cream," said the report.

"The real success of this flavor is in the mix-ins," said a separate report by The Ice Cream Informant blog. "The fudge flakes and peanuts are incredibly plentiful and makes tasting the base alone almost impossible. This adds to the feeling of eating a candy bar on a spoon."

A pint is priced at $5.49, according to another separate report by the On Second Scoop blog.

"It is an all-store play for us," 7-Eleven spokesperson Margaret Chabris told CSP Daily News concerning the Ben & Jerry's exclusive. "The item was recently launched … and distribution is rolling out across the U.S."

South Burlington, Vt.-based Ben & Jerry's, a subsidiary of Unilever, produces a wide variety of super-premium ice cream and ice cream novelties, using high-quality ingredients including milk and cream from family farmers who do not treat their cows with the synthetic hormone rBGH. Its products are distributed nationwide and in selected foreign countries in supermarkets, grocery stores, convenience stores, franchise Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shops, restaurants and other venues.

Dallas-based 7-Eleven operates, franchises or licenses more than 10,000 7-Eleven stores in North America. It has approximately 50,000 stores in 16 countries. During 2011, 7-Eleven stores generated total worldwide sales of nearly $76.6 billion.
