LAPORTE, Ind. — American Licorice Co., maker of the Red Vines and Sour Punch brands, has acquired the Torie & Howard brand. Torie & Howard was co-founded by Torie Burke and Howard Slatkin in 2012 with a pledge to produce health-friendly and socially conscious treats.

Tori & Howard’s candies, including Torie & Howard Organic Hard Candy and Chewie Fruities Organic Candy Chews, are USDA Organic and Kosher certified, allergen friendly, non-GMO, vegan and gluten free.

Following the deal, Burke has joined the American Licorice team to continue developing the Torie & Howard brand. American Licorice is currently integrating the brand and will provide more detail in the coming weeks.

John Kretchmer, CEO of American Licorice, said the Torie & Howard brand complements recent American Licorice investments, including a minority investment in Theo Chocolate Inc., the first organic, fair trade-certified chocolate maker in North America, and an investment in Mindful Nourishment LLC, the creators of the nutritional snack Zing bars.

American Licorice Co. is based in LaPorte, Ind. Torie & Howard is based in New Milford, Conn.
