Everyone needs a road trip snack—even Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. The Democratic presidential nominee and her running mate took a bus tour Sunday in western Pennsylvania and made a stop at convenience-store chain Sheetz.

The road trip was a day before the start of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), which runs Monday-Thursday in Chicago.

In a video posted to Walz’s social media accounts, he can be seen passing a bag of Doritos to Harris and her husband Douglas Emhoff.

“Every road trip needs a snack break. Doritos acquired. I got you, @kamalaharris,” Walz’s post read (screenshot from video below).

The pair stopped at a new Sheetz at the intersection of University Boulevard and Route 51, according to reports from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The candidates and their spouses landed at Pittsburgh International Airport early Sunday afternoon and made a stop at the Democratic Party headquarters, a football team’s practice and Primanti Bros. restaurant, in addition to Sheetz, the newspaper reported.

By sunset Sunday, they departed for Chicago, the report said. Sheetz did not immediately respond to CSP’s request for comment.

On Monday, Walz also touted c-store chain Kwik Trip, according to a report from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. During a talk to Wisconsin delegates at the DNC, he referenced his visit to Sheetz.

"They didn't realize how high the bar is with a Kwik Trip guy," Walz said, according to the report, referencing the La Crosse, Wisconsin-headquartered gas station and convenience-store chain.

  • Sheetz is No. 13 on CSP’s 2024 Top 202 ranking of U.S. convenience-store chains by store count. Kwik Trip is No. 11.

It’s not the first time presidential candidates have visited c-stores. Both former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden have made stops while campaigning at c-stores including Sheetz, Wawa and a New York City bodega.

Established in 1952 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Sheetz currently operates more than 740 convenience stores in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland.
