HERSHEY, Pa. — For the first time in The Hershey Co.'s125-year history, theHershey'sbrand is changing the look of its original milk chocolate bar. It has transformed the packaging and format of its flagship chocolate bar to appeal to consumers who enjoy emojis—ideograms used in electronic messages and web pages.

The new Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Emoji Bar will feature 25 emoji characters across six different package designs and will launch in retailers nationwide this summer for a limited time.

The treats will come in both standard 1.55-ounce individual bars and 9.45-ounce snack-size bags for suggested retail prices of 99 cents and $4.09, respectively.

“Our classic Hershey’s bars were made to be shared with others,” said Kriston Ohm, senior manager for the Hershey’s brand. “By adding an emoji design to each pip of chocolate, we hope that parents and kids are inspired to share a chocolate emoji and make a connection with someone new.”

The emojis on the new bar include a laughing face with tears and a smiley face sticking out its tongue. Each emoji was selected by parents and kids to feature meanings that would help to spark a conversation, Hershey said. Moreover, 87% of children said that the new Hershey’s Emoji Bar is something they would want to share with others.

Hershey, based in Hershey, Pa., has more than 80 brands that drive more than $7.4 billion in annual revenues, including Hershey's, Reese's, Hershey's Kisses, Jolly Rancher, Ice Breakers and Brookside.
