J&J Snack Foods Acquires Kim & Scott's Gourmet Pretzels

Chicago-based company also rolls out ice cream bar with pretzel rod stick

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. -- J & J Snack Foods Corp. has acquired the assets of Kim & Scott's Gourmet Pretzels. Kim & Scott's is distributed throughout foodservice and retail channels, including select BP ampm convenience stores in the Chicago area and Kwik Trip c-stores in Wisconsin.

"We are pleased to welcome the Kim & Scott's family into our organization. We look forward to expanding the brand in the future," said Gerald B. Shreiber, president and chief executive officer of J & J Snack Foods.

Scott Holstein, Kim & Scott's co-founder, will continue to work for the company.

Kim & Scott's Gourmet Pretzels was started in 1995 and is currently run out of a 38,000-square-foot Chicago bakery with annual sales projected at $10 million to $15 million.

It offers more than 12 varieties. Each all-natural pretzel is twisted by hand and made from scratch. The pretzels are made in a nut-free facility and are a source of whole grains and free from trans fats, preservatives and hydrogenated oils.

Kim & Scott's also recently rolled out the Crave Bar, an ice cream bar with vanilla ice cream, dark chocolate with crunchy pretzel pieces and sea salt, and which uses a pretzel rod for the stick.

Pennsauken, N.J.-based J & J Snack Foods' principal products include Superpretzel, Pretzel Fillers and other soft pretzels, ICEE, Slush Puppie and Arctic Blast frozen beverages, Luigi's, Minute Maid frozen juice bars and ices, Whole Fruit sorbet, Fruit-A-Freeze frozen fruit bars, Mary B's biscuits and dumplings, Daddy Ray's fig and fruit bars, Tio Pepe's and California Churros churros, The Funnel Cake Factory funnel cakes, and several cookie brands within Country Home Bakers.
