Kraft Heinz and Hershey Reveal New Whipped Toppings

Partnership results in candy-based coatings

CHICAGO and HERSHEY, Pa. -- Kraft Heinz and Hershey have joined forces to innovate in the whipped dairy topping category. Now available at select retailers nationwide, Hershey’s Milk Chocolate and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Dairy Whipped Toppings are set for national distribution this October in 7-ounce cans for a suggested retail price of $2.99 to $3.99.

The launch comes at the heels of success for Hershey and Reese’s—two of Hershey’s core brands, which increased a combined 1.3% during this year’s second quarter, according to the chocolate company’s second-quarter earnings report.

This marks Kraft Heinz’s second toppings release of 2018. Earlier this year, the company revealed Mayochup, a combination of ketchup and mayonnaise, as well as Ssam, a specialty sauce from New York-based restaurant Momofuku.

Hershey’s Milk Chocolate and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Dairy Whipped Toppings offer a hint of sweetness to beverages like hot chocolate or coffee and are an ideal finisher to a scoop of ice cream, cakes and baked goods, Kraft Heinz and Hershey said. Consumers can also use these whipped toppings on breakfast foods such as waffles and pancakes and on fruits such as bananas and apples.

Both whipped toppings are made with 100% real cream from cows not treated with recombinant bovine growth hormones. The products are free of high fructose corn syrup, oil-based ingredients and artificial additives. The Hershey’s Milk Chocolate flavor is also made with Hershey’s cocoa.

Consumers seek sweets not just as after-dinner desserts but also as daytime snacks, according to the two companies. Hershey’s Milk Chocolate and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Dairy Whipped Toppings add a dimension to a variety of snacks and dishes that can be consumed during all hours of the day.

The Hershey Co., Hershey, Pa., has more than 80 brands that drive more than $7.4 billion in annual revenues, including Hershey's, Reese's, Hershey's Kisses, Jolly Rancher, Ice Breakers and Brookside.

Chicago-based Kraft Heinz Co. is a leading food and beverage company. Its brands include ABC, Capri Sun, Classico, Jell-O, Kool-Aid, Lunchables, Maxwell House, Ore-Ida, Oscar Mayer, Philadelphia, Planters, Plasmon, Quero, Smart Ones and Velveeta.
