WASHINGTON — June is National Candy Month, and with summer nearing, the National Confectioners Association (NCA) is recognizing the designation by revealing the top summer candy types and flavors.

According to the Washington, D.C.-based association, the top three summer candy flavors are strawberry, watermelon and cherry. And the top summer candy types are chocolate, gummies and hard candy.

Meanwhile, NCA offered these nuggets of consumer insight as consumers incorporate chocolate and candy into their summer plans:

  • 94% of Americans who plan to go camping this summer said they will bring chocolate or candy with them.
  • 93% of Americans planning road trips say they’ll take candy along.
  • 89% of beachgoers said they like to enjoy some chocolate or candy while seaside.

“Whether you’re headed to the beach or to the pool, out for a hike or just to your backyard, chocolate and candy can add some sweetness to the summer,” said John Downs, NCA president and CEO. “With more retailers joining us in this fun and unique national awareness moment, we are bringing the National Candy Month celebration to more and more people nationwide.”

Most Americans believe that physical health and emotional well-being are connected, and NationalCandyMonth.com serves as a resource for consumers looking to strike a balance between managing their sugar intake and enjoying their favorite treats while having some fun this summer, NCA said.

The National Confectioners Association is the trade organization that promotes the role of chocolate, candy, gum and mints in a balanced lifestyle and the companies that make these treats.
