OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. — Sara Lee Frozen Bakery is expanding its pie business.
The Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.-based company has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Spokane, Wash.-based pie company Cyrus O’Leary’s Pies. The move marks another expansion of Sara Lee’s presence in the in-store bakery (ISB) category: It acquired Superior Cake Products from Kansas City, Mo.-based Hostess Brands in summer 2019.
Cyrus O’Leary’s started as a restaurant in 1981 before growing to a nationally distributed gourmet pie brand, which includes its award-winning fruit and cream pies. It distributes frozen pies in all 50 states and into Canada.
“We are delighted to add Cyrus O’Leary’s extensive variety of delicious pies to our iconic product portfolio,” said Craig Bahner, CEO of Sara Lee Frozen Bakery. “As we look to expand our competitive presence in the ISB category, Cyrus O’Leary’s impressive 40-year pie legacy and their in-store bakery leadership will help us achieve our strategic growth plan and continue providing our customers with more irresistible indulgences.”
Barclay Klingel, CEO of Cyrus O’Leary’s Pies, will remain in his role and report directly to Bahner.
