ROSEMONT, Ill. — Retailers congregated April 2-4 at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare for the 2019 NACS State of the Industry Summit not only to discuss the biggest trends in convenience stores but to also check out the newest items that will emerge down the line. Among the products featured in the New Products Showcase were interesting twists on classic cheese treats, new types of jerky and even olive snacks.
Here are six new snacks from the summit that caught CSP’s attention …
Mentos Clean Breath mints, the newest mint candy from Perfetti Van Melle, aim to provide clean, fresh breath for half an hour after consumption. Unlike the rest of Mentos’ mints, these mints contain green tea extract in between the layers of each bite. Mentos Clean Breath mints come in 0.74-ounce pocket-friendly packs that contain 30 mints for a suggested retail price of $2.
Italian cheese importer Schuman Cheese had its Whisps on display at this year’s SOI Summit in all five flavors: Cheddar Cheese, Bacon BBQ, Asiago & Pepper Jack, Tomato Basil and Parmesan. Whisps are made with natural cheese crafted from hormone-free milk and are baked into an airy, crispy snack. They’re available to ship in packs of four for $15.99.
Healthy snack manufacturer Golden Nest showcased its Golden Nest Jerky Bites at the Summit, which come in three flavors: Bourbon BBQ, Mango Habanero and Garlic Parmesan, all of which are available in beef, chicken and pork varieties. Each 2.5-ounce bag of the jerky snacks are available for an SRP of $3.99.
Pepperidge Farms’ Goldfish Epic Crunch snacks were on display at this year’s SOI Summit. Bigger in size than traditional Goldfish, this version of the classic snack is made with tortilla chips and has a bold flavor and big crunch. Goldfish Epic Crunch comes in three flavors: Nacho, Honey BBQ and Ranch, all of which are available in 2.25-ounce and 5.5-ounce packages.
Olive Snacks, produced by olive and olive oil maker Gaea, are pitted green olives that are marinated with chili and black pepper. They are packaged in resealable bags that allow repeated opening and closing. They’re free of gluten, preservatives and additives and are also non-GMO, vegan and kosher. One package contains 16 olives.
