Taco Bell-Inspired Sunflower Seeds to Hit Shelves

Bigs Sunflower Seeds sets marketing initiative around the rollout

CHICAGO – Bigs Sunflower Seeds has debuted its new Taco Bell-inspired sunflower seeds, Bigs Taco Bell Taco Supreme. The snack will arrive at convenience stores and other retailers later this month.

Available in 5.35-ounce bags with a suggested retail price of $1.99, the salty snack combines Bigs’ original sunflower seeds with a spicy taco seasoning.

"Both Bigs Sunflower Seeds and Taco Bell are synonymous with bold flavors," said Greg O'Neal, vice president of marketing for Bigs Sunflower Seeds. "We're excited to introduce these sunflower seeds to fans of both Bigs and Taco Bell."

The Taco Bell-inspired snack extends Bigs’ repertoire of co-brand sunflower-seed flavor collaborations. Others include Tapatio Chile Limon, Vlasic Dill Pickle, Hidden Valley Ranch, Stubbs Bar-B-Q and Old Bay Seasoned. Bigs will also implement an integrated marketing campaign alongside the Taco Bell Taco Supreme sunflower seeds that includes social media, digital video, event sampling and an online bag giveaway while supplies last.

This isn’t the first time Taco Bell has made its way to retailers. In March, the company launched a line of tortilla chips at convenience and grocery stores nationwide in its Mild and Fire sauce flavors, as well as a Classic option. And in 2013, Taco Bell and Frito Lay released Doritos Locos Tacos Tortilla Chips to retail segments.

Boulder, Colo.-based Bigs Sunflower Seeds has distributed co-branded sunflower and pumpkin seeds since 2004. The company is owned by Chicago-based Conagra Brands Inc., a leading packaged-food business that manufactures brands including Marie Callender's, Reddi-wip, Hunt's, Healthy Choice, Slim Jim, Orville Redenbacher's, Alexia, Blake's, Frontera, Duke's and Angie's Boomchickapop.
