Thorntons Participates in National Doughnut Day

Stores to offer free doughnut with beverage purchase

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Thorntons Inc. said that it is participating with National Doughnut Day by offering a free donut with any coffee, cappuccino, hot chocolate, fountain or fresh brewed tea purchase. The promotion will take place on Friday, June 3, at all Louisville and Southern Indiana store locations until 6:00 p.m.

The offer will be available at all 42 Louisville and Southern Indiana Thorntons locations throughout the day.

"We are excited to participate in the National Doughnut Day promotion, and allow our customers to select the donut of their choice with any beverage [image-nocss] purchase," said Matt Thornton, CEO and president of Thorntons.

National Doughnut Day is held every year on the first Friday in June. It began in 1938 as a fundraiser for the Chicago Salvation Army. The goal was to help those less fortunate during the Great Depression, and to honor the Salvation Army "Lassies" of World War I, who served doughnuts to soldiers.

Founded by Kentucky native James H. Thornton in 1971, Thorntons is one of the leading independent gasoline and convenience chain retailers in the United States, currently operating throughout the Midwest under the brand name Thorntons. With more than $1.4 billion in revenue, Thorntons is one of largest privately held corporations in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Headquartered in Louisville, it operates 163 gasoline and convenience stores, car washes and travel plazas in five states: Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Tennessee. Thorntons distributes its petroleum products through its wholly owned Thornton Transportation Co. and operates a river bulk storage terminal in Louisville.
