New ice-cream brands find the highest success for trial and sales velocity with mass merchandisers first and foremost. It’s followed by grocery, with c-stores ranking third, said Lyons Wyatt.
One such new product: Hostess is collaborating with Nestle Dreyer’s to launch Hostess Frozen Novelties and Ice Cream. Nestle is manufacturing and distributing the product under the Hostess brand.
When it comes to sweet treats, people are gravitating slightly toward sweet-snack intake over savory, as 49% reached for sweet over two other types: pure savory and ones combining sweet and savory.
IRI revealed that meat snacks often establish a strong presence in drug chains, followed by mass merchandisers, club and food stores and then c-stores, which sell a lot of meat snacks but aren’t thought of first by consumers.
One example are paleo-friendly meat sticks, the latest product innovation from Country Archer Jerky. The Beef Stick is made with 100% grass-fed and finished beef, and the Turkey Stick is made with turkey raised without antibiotics or added hormones.
Salty snacks also find success first with mass-merchandiser chains, with club, grocery and c-stores falling in line.
Snyder's Buttermilk Ranch and Sweet Chili Garlic-flavored Pretzel Pieces are just two examples of new salty snacks. The varieties are joining the company's line of sourdough hard-pretzel bites. The 10-ounce packages have an SRP of $3.69 each. Other flavors available include Cheddar Cheese, Salted Caramel, Jalapeno, S’mores and Hot Buffalo Wing.
