ADD Systems Launches Nutrition and Ingredient Labeling Tool

New tool aims to make complying with menu regulations easier

FLANDERS, N.J. -- Advanced Digital Data Inc. (ADD Systems), a supplier of software solutions to the convenience-store industry, is adding nutrition and ingredient labeling as part of its ADD eStore back-office software solution.

Currently set for enforcement on May 7, 2018, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA's) pending rule establishes menu-labeling requirements for chain restaurants and similar retail-food establishments. Establishments that are covered by the rule must post calories for standard menu items on menus or menu boards. For self-service items and foods on display, calorie counts must be available on signs adjacent to the items. Operators must also provide additional written nutrition information to consumers upon request. ADD eStore aims to make meeting the FDA requirements simpler to follow.

ADD eStore leverages is own recipe-building component to keep track of all ingredients included in the creation of foodservice items. From there, eStore can create all of the appropriate labels and barcodes necessary to properly display the required information.

John Coyle, sales manager for ADD Systems, said these new enhancements to ADD Systems’ software will keep retailers moving forward with their foodservice evolution, and within compliance with FDA guidelines, when the new rules go into effect. “We have seen major advancements in our customers’ foodservice categories over the last few years. As the tobacco category continues to feel pressure due to increased regulation, foodservice has been a shining light to regaining valuable margin and profits,” said Coyle. “Allowing our clients to meet the federal guidelines ahead of schedule ensures they will have no interruption in their foodservice category.”

Since 1973, Flanders, N.J.-based ADD Systems has been a provider of software for the petroleum, propane, wholesale, gasoline and convenience-store industries.
