Atlas Oil to Host 9/11 Remembrance Week

Events includes career fair for military, flag raising, thank-you activities, blood drive, more

TAYLOR, Mich.-- Atlas Oil will host a Remembrance Week September 12-16, to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 and to thank first responders for their dedication and service to our country. The U.S. Army is partnering with Atlas on key activities for the week, including the signing of a partnership agreement called "Army PaYS" (Partnership in Youth Success), which is designed to help members of the military who are returning from active duty to find suitable jobs as civilians.

Atlas and the Army will host a special career fair on Monday, September 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Wayne County Community College.

The week's activities kick off on Monday with a caravan of Atlas and Army military vehicles in a procession to Atlas Park, across the street from Atlas' Home Office in Taylor, Mich. Sam Simon, CEO of Atlas and Lieutenant Colonel Joan Sweeney-Dent, commander of the Great Lakes recruiting command, will then sign the Army PaYS agreement.

The week will culminate on Friday, September 16, with a special flag-raising ceremony at the Atlas home office in Taylor, including the unveiling of a beam from the World Trade Center. Taylor area first responders will also be on hand for the tribute along with the Fire Fighters Honor Guard.

Other activities for the week include "Thankful Tuesday," where Atlas team members will deliver thank-you banners and pizzas to the Taylor fire and police departments; a Red Cross blood drive on Wednesday, September 14, at the Atlas Resource Center in Taylor; and a "Red, White & Blue" day where Atlas team members will wear the colors of the flag and sport remembrance pins.

"It seems like only yesterday that we watched helplessly as this tragedy struck and forever changed our lives. It was our great American Spirit that allowed us to move forward from those tragic events and pledge to keep freedom alive," said Simon. "It is that same spirit that is alive and well in each of us as we live our lives and do all we can to ensure that America remains the greatest country in the world."
