Chevron Redesigns, Enhances Chevron, Texaco Cards

Shell announces new credit-card rebate program

SAN RAMON, Calif. -- Chevron Global Marketing has introduced the newly designed Chevron and Texaco personal credit cards offering customers enhanced benefits. In the coming weeks, active Chevron and Texaco cardholders will be reissued the new personal credit cards.

In addition to the new card design, Chevron is introducing new features with the addition of:

Road Service: Complimentary road service during the first year to assist Chevron and Texaco cardholders with free towing, fuel deliveries, jump start or tire services. ATM Cash Access: Chevron and Texaco personal credit-card [image-nocss] customers that qualify will now have convenient cash access at more than 350,000 ATMs associated with the Cirrus network. Zero Fraud Liability. Cardholders will no longer be liable for unauthorized charges made on their credit card regardless of dollar amount.

Following the sale of Chevron's consumer credit card last year to GE Money and its commercial credit card to FleetCor, Chevron continues to play an active role in looking for new and innovative ways to serve Chevron and Texaco cardholders, it said.

"Chevron is working with GE Money to continue to bring new and differentiated credit card products to Chevron and Texaco customers," said Shariq Yosufzai, president of Chevron Global Marketing.

There will continue to be no annual fee associated with the Chevron and Texaco credit cards and cardholders will continue to receive flexible payment options, online account information and access to thousands of conveniently located Chevron and Texaco stations by accessing www.chevrontexacocards.com.

"We believe the features of the new personal credit cards will enhance the customer experience and increase the value of our cards in a competitive market," said Danny Roden, vice president of Chevron Global Marketing for the Americas, San Ramon, Calif.

In other credit-card news, Houston-based Shell Oil Products US said that between April 1 and June 30, customers who open a new Shell Gasoline Card account will be eligible to earn 25 cents per gallon rebate on the purchase of their first 100 gallons of Shell gasoline.

New accountholders must use their Shell Gasoline Card to purchase the fuel and will have 90 days from the account open date to reach the 100-gallon mark. Once cardholders have purchased 100 gallons, they will automatically receive a $25 Shell gift card by mail that can be used for items including gasoline, car washes, repair service or food and drinks.

"The 'Earn 25 Cents Per Gallon' promotion…is designed to help people get in the habit of stopping at one of the 14,000-plus Shell-branded stations across the U.S. for their fuel," said Carolyn Yapp, Shell US card and payments manager.

With the goal of booking more than 26,000 new consumer credit card accounts, the promotion will benefit Shell-branded wholesale, direct retail and multi-site operators by driving more site traffic and increasing the use of Shell-branded credit cards, the company said. Shell credit card users are especially attractive customers for retailers because they do not pay merchant service fees on Shell-branded card transactions. Also, internal Shell research shows that Shell cardholders purchase twice as much or more gasoline compared to regular bankcard customers.

The promotion will be supported with national radio, newspaper and web advertising, as well as point-of-purchase (POP) materials, including pumptoppers, pole signs, building signs and register toppers. In addition to the credit card promotion, Shell retail sites will continue to feature messaging reinforcing the Shell "Passionate Experts" campaign.

Also, the promotional applications for the Shell Gasoline Card will be housed in a new holder that has been proven to result in a 30% increase of completed applications-per-pilot feedback results. The new holder, made of translucent plexiglass, was developed to complement the Shell retail visual image and clean pump design lines. It is positioned at the same level as the pump nozzle and will ensure the applications remain intact during inclement weather.
