CITGO Petroleum Corp., Houston, is expanding its Club CITGO loyalty program beyond the fuel forecourt. After CITGO completed a major technology upgrade in 2025, customers are now able to earn or redeem rewards in other places, like hotels, travel brands, mass wholesalers and regional grocers, the company said.

The company said Club CITGO will also add an age-verification feature to support compliance for age-restricted products. Under the new system, customers can opt in to receive targeted marketing, complete a brief screening to confirm eligibility and then access exclusive offers available at participating locations.

2025 updates

The company began the overhaul in April, when it merged its two existing mobile apps into the Club CITGO app. The unified platform gives customers a single place to manage rewards, make payments and receive real-time updates on promotions and account activity.

A month later, CITGO introduced Premier Status, a new tier aimed at its most frequent customers. Members who complete 12 qualifying fuel purchases of at least eight gallons during a calendar quarter earn the upgraded status, which unlocks an additional 3-cent-per-gallon reward that can be combined with monthly promotions and bonus-day offers. Premier Status lasts through the remainder of the quarter in which it is earned and continues through the next quarter. Users can track their progress directly on the app’s home screen.

CITGO also expanded its in-store promotional strategy with national merchandise offers refreshed every quarter. The deals, displayed inside the app, are intended to drive fuel customers into participating stores and boost merchandise sales. The company said stores can also tailor their own discounts through customizable, location-based offers.

CITGO has also expanded the Club CITGO app to include mobile payment capabilities, giving members more flexibility and convenience at the pump. Customers can add major credit cards — including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and the CITGO Rewards Card — directly to the app, with the option to link bank accounts for (automated clearing house) ACH payments coming soon. Each integrated payment method supports secure, contactless transactions and provides opportunities for members to earn additional savings. The app also supports Apple Pay for mobile payments at the pump, offering another fast and seamless way to complete fuel purchases.

Refiner and marketer CITGO Petroleum Corp. owns and operates three refineries—Lake Charles, Louisiana; Lemont, Illinois; and Corpus Christi, Texas, and wholly and jointly owns 38 active terminals, eight pipelines and three lubricants blending and packaging plants. With a combined crude capacity of approximately 807,000 barrels per day (bpd), CITGO ranks as the fifth largest independent refiner in the United States. It transports and markets transportation fuels, lubricants, petrochemicals and other industrial products. CITGO Petroleum is owned by CITGO Holding Inc. and is majority-owned by Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA), a state-owned company of the Venezuelan government.
