SAN FRANCISCO DoorDash is launching DashMart, “a new type of convenience store” offering delivery of household essentials and local restaurant food. "On DashMart, you’ll find thousands of convenience, grocery and restaurant items, from ice cream and chips, to cough medicine and dog food, to spice rubs, famous BBQ sauces and packaged desserts from the local restaurants our customers love on DoorDash," the company said.

DashMart stores are owned, operated and curated by app-based restaurant delivery company DoorDash.

The delivery service gives restaurants an avenue to sell retail items in today’s COVID-19 pandemic-induced socially distant world. Brothers BBQ of Denver is using DashMart to sell its barbecue sauces and seasonings. Chicago’s Girl & the Goat is selling its This Little Goat sauces and spices on DashMart.

DashMart is currently available in eight cities, including Chicago, Minneapolis, Columbus, Cincinnati, Dallas, Salt Lake City, the greater Phoenix area and Redwood City, Calif. Over the coming months, DashMart is slated to launch in more cities across the country including San Diego, Baltimore, Denver, Sacramento, and Concord, Calif., it said.

DashMart is not the first convenience-related initiative this year from DoorDash. In April, it launched the convenience category on DoorDash, with help from 7-Eleven, Walgreens, CVS, Wawa and more. Now DoorDash’s convenience category includes more than 2,500 c-stores across more than 1,100 cities nationwide.

The company is seeking more restaurants and retailers to sell products through the DashMart platform. San Francisco-based DoorDash owns, operates and curates DashMart. The delivery system appears to function similarly to convenience delivery service goPuff. The platform promises delivery in 30 minutes or less.
