Flyers Energy Acquires Fleet Card Fuels

Former Nella Oil integrating cardlock sites into existing network

AUBURN, Calif.--Independent fuel marketer Flyers Energy LLC (formerly Nella Oil Co.) said that it has acquired the assets of Bakersfield, Calif.-based Fleet Card Fuels as of January 5, 2012.

The company is in the process of integrating Fleet Card's CFN cardlock sites into the existing Flyers network, making it one of the largest fleet fueling operators in the country.

Cardlock customers will immediately benefit from using the Flyers integrated customer website, which provides access to comprehensive card and account management.

This deal extends Flyers Energy's reach into the Los Angeles basin for the first time, picking up supply agreements to more than 50 additional fuel sites branded Valero, Shell, Chevron and 76.

A key growth area for the company is franchising the Flyers name to independent fuel sites.

"Flyers is our proprietary brand, offering fuel discounts, reduced credit-card fees and a turnkey image package. Our CFN and voyager customers bring extra gallon sales to our franchisees," said Jay Galvin, sales manager.

Flyers extended employment offers to a majority of existing Fleet Card Fuels team members and is still working to fill more positions for sales people, drivers and office staff. "We are hiring in several markets," said Rick Teske, general manager.

Both companies are family owned with long histories in the California fuel business. "The two companies are a good geographic and cultural fit," said Walt Dwelle, managing partner of Flyers Energy.

Auburn, Calif.-based Flyers retail operations are now comprised of 44 convenience stores and truckstops. The company operates a fleet of 75 trucks in California and Nevada to keep its base of stores, dealers and wholesale customers supplied with their fuel requirements.
